Reducing Waste

Reducing Waste

by Suzy Scarpa

Reducing waste is an essential part of adopting an eco-friendly lifestyle. One of the easiest and most effective ways is by composting.

It's a simple process that enriches soil and promotes healthy plant growth, and it's something that has been done for generations in my family. Im pretty sure you will find one in most Italian backyard veggie gardens! You can start by setting up a compost bin in your garden or even just a small indoor one, and you'll quickly see the benefits.

Another way to reduce waste is by avoiding single-use items like plastic cutlery and straws. Instead, opt for reusable containers, bottles, and utensils, and always look for biodegradable and compostable alternatives. This can significantly reduce the amount of plastic and other non- biodegradable materials that end up in landfills and oceans.

Finally, look for ways to repurpose or up-cycle items in your home instead of throwing them away. You'd be amazed at how many items can be given a second life with a little creativity! For example, that long cocktail dress you haven't worn in years could be altered into a chic mini dress, and jars can be used for storing bulk foods or making tasty breakfasts like chia pudding.

Remember, every small action counts, and by making conscious decisions and taking conscious actions, we can all lead a more sustainable lifestyle and reduce the waste we generate.
